Trap team added to spring sports lineup

In addition to the traditional spring sports, there will be a trap team consisting of 14 Sevastopol students. The team practices alongside the Gibraltar trap team at the Peninsula Gun Club in Fish Creek.

The team is a part of the national USA Clay Target League organization, a virtual league. The competitors will shoot 50 clay targets and record the score online. Once the season ends, the top 75% of the competitors will move on and compete during the state competition. From there, they will be ranked both individually and as a team.

Before joining the team, all competitors must complete the hunter’s safety course.

“My goal is to teach safe handling of firearms, but also to have fun and improve shooting skills,” coach Sophia Parr said.

Lanie Brauer is the only female who went out this year.

“I mean, it’s kinda cool because, hopefully, I will influence other girls to want to go out for it,” Brauer said.

The Trap team will compete on Monday nights, and their results will be uploaded to an online platform and compared with other competing schools.
