Senior Kayla Ranly needed 17 points to hit the mark heading into Thursday’s game at Sturgeon Bay. Ranly has been starting on varsity since her sophomore year. She has been averaging 14 points a game this season.
After jumping out to a twenty point lead over the Clippers in the first half, Ranly brought the ball up needing just three more points. Then after taking a few steps over halfcourt she picked up her dribble and swished the pull up three.
Ranly was happy to have been able to meet this mark near home since it couldn’t happen at Sevastopol.
“It was a lot of hard work and it was very nice to be supported by my fans, friends, and family,” Ranly said.
Ranly became the seventh girl’s basketball player to hit 1,000 points in Sevastopol school history. This was the first time in school history that two girls in the same graduating class have scored 1,000 points.
Senior Naomi Rikkola did it in her junior year against Gibraltar.
Following the celebration for Ranly, the game resumed and Sevastopol dominated the rest of the way en route to a 77-32 win. Ranly Finished the game with a game-high 29 points. Senior Ella Volkmann had a career high 17 points and Freshman Sadie Rikkola added 12 points.
