The Sevastopol Boys Basketball team made history on Jan. 14, 2025 by finally winning a conference game. The Pioneers prevailed over N.E.W. Lutheran with a score of 63-53, after nearly 1,782 days since their last conference win in February 2020.
The game started off slow for both teams. With 7:51 left, the Pioneers were down by 8 with a score of 22-14. However, by the end of the half, they caught up to a score of 32-30 still losing by 2.
The start of the second half was a different story; the Pioneers flipped a switch. The team took control as their defense shut down the Blazers. Leading them to a well-deserved victory.
“It felt great to be a part of this new era,” senior Paulie Gnabasik said. “It was also nice to help contribute to the win. When I went in we were down by eight, and when I went back out, we were up by four.”
This victory ended the era of 68 straight losses in the Packerland Conference, which marked a milestone for the Sevastopol Boys Basketball team. The team is hopeful to continue this stride for victory in their games ahead. They currently have a conference record of 2-9.
