Winners:
Texas(1)- Texas might be the biggest winners of the week, as they took on ranked Oklahoma In the famous Red River Rivalry. Texas didn’t just win this game, they dominated every single snap. The final score was 34-3, and it is a perfect representation of how this game went. Texas dominated the running game, rushing for almost 100 more yards than Oklahoma. Texas’ defense is what really shined, as they helped the dynamic Oklahoma offense to just 3 points.
Oregon(2)- Oregon shocked most of the college football fanbase when they took down Ohio St at home. The Ducks came into the game as heavy underdogs, and kept the game close until the fourth quarter, when they kicked a field goal to go up 32-31 with 2:00 left. Ohio State drove down the field and couldn’t score because of miscues, and Oregon got the biggest win of their new Big Ten career.
Penn St(4)- The Nittany Lions traveled to USC to play the Trojans in a Big Ten Conference matchup. Tight End Tyler Warren was the star of the show. On one of Penn St’s touchdown’s, Warren snapped the ball and then went out for a pass and caught a spectacular touchdown. Then he threw a touchdown pass later in the game. Penn St came back from 10 down to beat USC in a tight overtime game.
LSU(8)- The LSU Tigers took on conference rival, Ole Miss Rebels at home this week. LSU and Ole Miss were both ranked going into this matchup. LSU and Ole Miss were dead even going into the second quarter tied at zero a piece. In the second quarter the action started to heat up. Ole Miss heated up with QB Jaxon Dart throwing a touchdown and all around good offense by Ole Miss to put them up 17-13 before halftime. LSU knew this was a must win and came out of the locker room swinging for the fences. Ole Miss and LSU were tied at the end of the fourth quarter, you know what that means. OVERTIME FOOTBALL! The captains met at centerfield and flipped the coin and landed on the Ole Miss side. Ole Miss marched down the field and got into field goal range and sank the field goal. The defense needed to show up. LSU’s offense would not let that happen though and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier threw an absolute dime to wide receiver Kyren Lacy to secure the game.
BYU(14)- The BYU Cougars hosted the Arizona Wildcats at home in week seven. Saying BYU dominated is an understatement. BYU’s defense was Kryptonite for Arizona’s Superman. BYU held star wide receiver Teotairoa McMillian to just five receptions for 78 yards. BYU also pulled in three interceptions. BYU won this game 41-19. BYU is up to 14th in the country and it is the highest they have been since 2022 when they were number 22.
Army(23) & Navy(25)- Army and Navy were two teams that absolutely no one expected to be in the Top 25 at any point in the season. Army and Navy are the biggest rivals in college football and always have a week dedicated just to their game. Army and Navy are both 6-0. If this keeps up I think the real winners are the people who watch The Army vs Navy Game.
Losers:
Ohio St(4)-Ohio State is without a question the biggest loser of the week. They traveled to Oregon and basically had the game in their hands with less than a minute left. But, some miscues occurred, such as a Jeremiah Smith Pass Interference penalty, pushing them out of field goal range, as well as not calling timeout and having the clock run down to 20 seconds. Then on the final play of the game, Senior quarterback Will Howard slid down with 0 seconds left, and Ohio State might have given up the Big 10 title.
Oklahoma- Oklahoma’s fanbase was fired up going into the Red River Rivalry vs Texas and they disappointed very noticeably, getting walloped 34-3 and having more miscues than I can count. Just nothing seemed to go right for Oklahoma, and as a result they dropped completely out of the top 25.
Utah- The Utah Utes traveled to Arizona State to take on the Sun Devils this weekend. Utah was the favored team and was looking to hold up their winning ways. ASU would not let that happen though as Utah’s star QB Cameron Rising went down with a lower leg injury. ASU saw a moment to capitalize, and they made the most of it when they defeated Utah 27-19.
USC- USC was hopeful going into the week against Penn State, thinking they could turn their season around with a win. It was looking very good for USC going into the second half of the game. However, they let their fanbase down by giving up the lead and losing in OT, proceeding to drop out of the top 25.
Colorado- The Colorado Buffaloes hosted the number 17 ranked Kansas State Wildcats. Colorado and Kansas State were having a back and forth matchup, and going into the fourth quarter Kansas State had to pick up the intensity. Kansas State’s passing game elevated and was too much for Colorado to keep up with. Kansas State went into Colorado and they left Coach Prime and the Buffalo hopefuls with a bad taste in their mouth.
Washington- The Washington Huskies came off a huge win when they beat the Michigan Wolverines in a 2024 National Championship rematch. The Huskies were riding high going into the infamous Kinnick Stadium. The Huskies were not favored but believed they could win. Iowa came to play. They dominated the rushing game with Kaleb Johnson having 21 carries, 166 yards, and two touchdowns. Iowa was leading 20-10 going into the very famous “Wave”. Iowa kept the brutalizing up and their offense did not let off the gas. Iowa ended up winning 40-16.
